THE Opals Australian womens

basketball team play the last

game of the preliminary round

this weekend against the strong

Russians.

This is the last chance Australia

will have to secure themselves a

high position in their group before

the quarter-finals begin.

Twelve teams qualified for

the Beijing roster: Spain, Czech

Republic, Latvia, Belarus, Brazil,

host country China, Australia,

the Republic of Korea, Mali, New

Zealand, Russia and the US.

Based on the results from the

qualifying round in Madrid, Group

A includes Australia, the Republic

of Korea, Russia, Brazil, Belarus

and Latvia and Group B comprises

China, Mali, New Zealand, US,

Czech Republic and Spain.

The quarter-finals begin on

August 19.
